My First Day of School

My first day of school was interesting. Especially since my ex is in two of my classes. We were friends – good friends way before we were together. He left Ohio for a while; I forget why but I guess he’s back to finish school I guess. Of all places to come back to, he comes back to Cleveland, Ohio.

Anyway, that was one highlight of the day. I ran into my mother too. I haven’t talked to her or heard from her since around this time last year. She looked okay but she was pissed. She’s always pissed about something so it’s nothing new.  Classes of course were a breeze because it was the first day. It’s not what I expected though. I expected the classrooms to be tiny and filled with ignorant people who was pretty much only there for the refund check from financial aid. They actually seems as if they want to learn. My ex of course is my math partner because he’s good at math so he’s going to help me with my math as much as possible. I really hate that subject. He’s also gone take me to the air show [maybe] Monday since school is closed and Tuesday is my birthday.

With one of my classes being early in the morning and the other one that day being late in the afternoon, I find walking back and forth to school to be tiresome but in the long run it will benefit me. Walking is good exercise. It’s just a good thing I don’t live too far from the school where it’s in a decent walking distance.

I pretty much had an okay day. I just hope I succeed.

18 Schools Are to be Closed Here in Cleveland

Only 54% of the kids in the Cuyahoga school district are graduating from school. That’s a very low percentage and is why the 18 schools are being closed and a lot of teachers are being laid off so Eugene Sanders say. I’m sure there are a lot of parents that are pretty upset about this decision. Especially those who live close to that school and now have to find means of transportation to get them to a school that’s farther away.

Who is at fault for 54% of the children graduating from school? Some say its the lazy parents who don’t push their kids to learn or to actually go to school. Others say its the kids that don’t want to learn so they do what they want in school, if they even get inside the school doors. Most say that its teachers and the lack of care from the teachers. Who knows what’s true or not? The thing is this, 18 schools are going to close here, a couple years back I believe 15 schools were closed and 5-6 were demolished and all that is left is an empty lot. My city where I lay my head is becoming more of a place where dreams go to die instead of place where dreams go to live and to thrive.

I don’t understand how closing all of these schools, stuffing kids in already over accumulated classrooms is going to help the issue. If anything its going to make it worse. The icing on the cake though is RTA and its ‘budget cut’. They’re shutting down a lot of routes here which will infact cause people to lose their jobs and or drop out of school. The reason to that is because the lack of ridership and they’re trying to get out of debt. In the meantime while they’re worrying about their financial woes, people won’t be able to get to here and there without them. If anything, ridership should be rising as soon as the schools are closed. Especially if most of the kids are being sent to one specific school where there’s a bus route.

I’m truly feeling sorry for the people of Cleveland, Ohio because the kids that want to learn aren’t being acknowledged at all. They’re being stuck on the back burner and probably will be thrown into a worse predicament than it was before their original school closed. I’m sure there will be a rise in home-schooling and other means of educating children come this June or sooner. Here I thought it was bad when I was still in High School. Worse has yet to come.
