Battlefield 3 XP Glitch: EOD Robot XP Trick

This easy and well known exploit for the Engineer in Battlefield 3 requires only three things: the EOD robot, a helpful human partner, and a Hardened Match which features friendly fire. The partner shoots the robot while the Engineer repairs it, which earns a constant steam of XP.

Dead Island: Survival Guide

Most of the strategies listed if not all should already common knowledge but if they’re then you came to the right blog. I just finished beating Dead Island and figured I could be of some help with some that are frustrated. I could have completed the game long before now but that recent update that was released ruined my save file, thus causing me to start over from scratch. Which I’m glad I did because I ran across a few things I missed the first time.

  • Run! I know experience points is everything but if you’re playing alone and you’re outnumbered, the best thing you should do is to run, run, run. Especially if you’re in Moresby traveling across the map to do a mission. There are only a few chances to actually drive a vehicle on this part of the map.
  • Don’t avoid Rams. [Well sometimes it's necessary]. Especially if they’re out in the open. Usually there’s a chest close by to check out. Which is why it’s essential to be fully leveled up in the lock picking tier.
  • Venture away from missions. Yep, you will run into some really beneficial side missions, metal chests, skulls [blue, orange, green, purple], mods, large amounts of money, and rare items if you run around the map.
  • Know when to pick your battles. There’s a reason why there are tips at the loading screens. The one about there being extremely difficult areas on the map if you were to venture them alone is one you should not take with a grain of salt. If you venture to these parts, be heavily armed, supported, healed, aware. You lose a large chunk of money every time you die. So to keep that change in your pocket, pick your fights.
  • Do not give Jin all your unnecessary items. I say this for two reasons. One, 9/10 you probably won’t need them; two, if your file size get over a certain amount; say 10260. If your saved game file exceeds over that number, your game will crash. Resulting in a very pissed and upset gamer. You must keep your file save below 10260. So that means for all those unnecessary gears, lemon juice, etc, just drop them. If you manage to go over the required file size you will have to resort to this tutorial. I must warn you though, it’s for advanced computer users only. Anyone less equipped will probably be confused.
  • Do not enter the jail! If you want to continue playing online that is. This may be a little too late for most but um, I recently tried playing online after I beat the game [it could have been a glitch or it could have been patched by now] and…I couldn’t. Probably because once you enter the jail, you’re at the point of no return. Which brings me to my next point…
  • Do all side quests! They hold the key to getting some really good weapons. Also because they’re fun. Who wants to stick strictly to the main story? You’ll beat the game too quickly then and probably won’t level up as fast; with weak weapons. Don’t rush through the game, the ending is disappointing anyway [well in my opinion]. ;)

More to come!

Dead Island: My Game Crashes At Loading Screen

First how many items did you give Jin? If your game save file is over 10260 then Houston, you have a problem. That’s usually the cause behind your Dead Island gaming crashing to desktop without an error message. Well below – first let me say this is for advanced users only. As of this moment until this glitch is fixed and you’re impatient this is the only solution to getting your game back in working order.

This is a complicated fix and worked. Make sure you back-up your original save file some where outside of the games save folder.

Programs needed:

  1. Winrar or Winzip or something similar to these programs.
  2. Any free hex editor.
  3. Gzip [to zip back up].

Start new game with the same character you used in your crashed game. (ACT 1). Remember which save game is which.
‘save_0′ is the first game created. ‘save_0.sav’ is just a zipped file extension. Win-rar will unzip ‘save_0.sav’ into ‘save_0′ [with no file extension].

In this example [actual save numbers may be different in your case].
save_0: Original save.
save_1: New game you made.

What you need to do now is as follows:

  1. Open save_0 and save_1 in a hex editor.
  2. You will see a bunch of zeros toward the end. After the mob of zeros you will see an 18 followed by more characters.
  3. In the original save delete 18 and everything afterwards.
  4. In the new save, take the hex from the same area and copy and paste where it was in the original. What this does is resets your quest but the file size should be small enough to run the game.
  5. Remember take info from the new game to the original and make sure you have a copy that hasn’t been touched
  6. Use Gzip to zip the save_0 to save_0.gz.
  7. Rename save_0.gz to save_0.sav.

Dead Island: Can’t See Any Servers [Solution]

Hi I have recently discovered a way after hours on end trying to solve my problem of Not being able to see any servers in the Game Lobby. If you’re reading this I’m assuming you have already followed all the how to play Dead Island  Co-Op guides and have update 3 installed.

FAQ

  • Q: Why is my Game Lobby greyed out? I can’t click it.
    • A: That is because your steam_appid.txt isn’t on read only. To fix this go to where you installed Dead Island, in my case it’s C:\Program Files (x86)\Dead Island find steam_appid.txt → Right Click it → Properties → tick read-only → press okay. Make sure the appid is 57940.

If you started a profile already and would like to keep the save file, what you’ll have to do is go to your steam install directory.

For me it’s C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\. Click the folder ‘userdata’. For me it’s C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata. Next, click each folder and find the one with your previous appid. If you changed from 13140 → 57940 and would like to keep the save files you had you find 13140 in the folders. After you click into it you should see remote\out\.

Before migrating the files you need to finish ACT 1 and save a character. After you do that then you copy the folders profiles and saves and paste it into 57940\remote\out run the game and you should be able to click Game Lobby.

Note: Make sure you select LAN and not Internet.

  • Q: I can’t see any games in Game Lobby.
    • A:
      1. Go to your steam install dir. C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\.
      2. Delete clientregistry.blob.
      3. Go to your Dead Island install dir. C:\Program Files (x86)\Dead Island\.
      4. Find steam_appid.txt Right Click → Properties → Untick Read-Only.
      5. Edit steam_appid.txt and change whatever 5 digit number in there to 57940.
      6. steam_appid.txt Right Click → Properties → tick Read-Only.
      7. Go to Network and Sharing click change adapter settings press ALT click Advanced → Advanced Settings then change your Wireless or Local Area Connection to the TOP.
      8. Restart your computer, boot up Tunngle join Dead Island channel, boot up smart steam, boot up Dead Island, press ESC click Game Lobby and you’re good to go!
  • Q: I have done all of that and I still can’t see my friends game or vice versa.
    • A: You should be able to see other players’ game on Tunngle, tell your friend to make a new character and see if you can see him or he can see you.

UPDATES
SCROLL DOWN TO VIEW THE LATEST UPDATE

UPDATE #4 11/09/2011: The fun never stops. Version 1.4 is available now, and allows you to change the weather to overcast. You can now also reselect your Dead Island folder, if you somehow managed to choose the wrong one initially.

UPDATE #3 11/09/2011: Yet another update! We’re now at version 1.3. Here are the changes:

Added an option to enable vertical syncronization
Added an option to disable dust
Added an option to disable the desaturation effect
Disabling bloom and weapon refraction now affects front30.ppfx and indoor30.ppfx

Remove stuttering / jerkiness caused by repeated keystrokes… without using Filter Keys
Fixes sluggish mouse in menus
Disable / enable SSAO shader for increased performance on some configurations (NVIDIA only)
Disable / enable motion blur, as some people just don’t like it
NEW in v1.1: Disable / enable bloom and weapon refraction

UPDATE #5 11/09/2011: Changelist follows:

The tweaks menu no longer closes automatically when you check/uncheck an option
Shadow maps: You can now set the shadow map resolution to 512, 1024, 2048 or 4096
Field of view: Expanded selection of values ranging from 62.5 (default) to 90 degrees
Added an option to enable overcast weather
Fixed a bug that could cause the program to crash when selecting non-option menu items

UPDATE #7 32/09/2011: Version 1.6 is now available! I’ve made quite a few changes under the hood to make the program more powerful and user-friendly. Here’s a changelist for the curious:

Tweaks have been split up and categorised. The result is a cleaner interface and an easier time finding the tweaks you want
Alternate settings folder support. You can now switch between My Documents and your game folder, if you’re finding that the tweaks aren’t working
Added the following tweaks:

Disable event logging, Disable in-game voice and Enable simple shadows
Small reminder when Video.scr is read-only or writeable and the ability to easily switch between these settings
The program should now prompt the user for administrative privileges
Renamed the keystroke repetition feature to make its usefulness more obvious
Corrected a typo with the field of view settings
Added a Close menu option along with Exit program
Various checks and balances for missing files and directories
Added a passive check for the micro-stutter fix so it only limits keyboard repetition while Dead Island is running.
Fixed a potential memory leak in the file extraction rountine

UPDATE #8 14/09/2011: New version, we’re up to v1.7 now. No new tweaks, but some significant structural changes and a few bug fixes.

UPDATE #9 14/09/2011: Minor bug fix release, v1.7a. It addressed a crash on program start-up. This would happen if the Dead Island registry settings could not be found.

Smart tweak detection: Dead Island Helper now reads edited files for changes and intelligently sets the enabled / disabled state of each tweak. Now you can see exactly what tweaks you’ve set – even ones you didn’t activate with Dead Island Helper!
Alternate configuration folder option replaced with custom folder selection. Users can now hunt down the exact directory configuration settings are stored. Don’t worry, it still tries to autodetect them if it can
Autodetection of the game’s main directory via the registry
Fixed a bug that would require the user to constantly re-enable the micro-stutter tweak in order for it to work
Added a “Start with Windows” option
Added a “Play Dead Island without intro movies” option. Start the game directly from the Helper! This option will also set Dead Island’s CPU priority to “Normal”
Dead Island Helper now starts on the lowest possible CPU priority setting to minimize any interference with the game while it’s running

UPDATE #10 15/09/2011: Changes in v1.8:

Split up the categories a bit more. FOV and motion blur moved to “Camera Tweaks”

“Disable in-game audio” removed. I had so many reports of it not working, and I can’t provide support for it, so it’s gone

Added an option to force the max refresh rate. Settings for 59Hz, 60Hz, 100Hz and 120Hz are available

Auto checks for updates. The tool now checks to see if a new version is available and, if so, lets you know. That’s the call it’s doing to the internet. It does it once on start-up. I’ll add an option to disable the check in the next version

UPDATE #11 17/09/2011: Changes in v1.81:

Replaced the keyboard hook-based micro-stutter fix with a FilterKeys one. Should fix any issues people have been having with weird sound or framerate issues when this tweak is active.

Updated the disable bloom, weapon refraction and dust tweaks to use the files in Data02.pak. This should hopefully fix the issues people have been having where effects seem to disappear while these tweaks are active

The auto-update feature can now be disabled

Laid some groundwork for an in-game save feature. Should be in for v1.9

Added a periodic check for the Dead Island process that will set the process priority to “Normal” if it ever drops to “Below Normal” or “Low”

UPDATE #12 18/09/2011: Released v1.9 as a beta! It contains some experimental features that have been tested as much as possible on a single machine. However, to make sure it’s as good as possible, I’ve released it as a beta. Changelist follows:

Removed the process priority enforcement from v1.8.

Reverted to the old keyboard hook-based micro-stutter fix as it is more reliable. The way it works has been tweaked so it should consume less CPU cycles (not that it was ever processor-intensive).

Settings restore points: It is now possible to set restore points for your settings. This feature will take a snapshots of your “Documents\DeadIsland\out” folder, compress them as a ZIP file, and store them in “Documents\DeadIsland\Restore Points”. Note that snapshots must be taken / restored manually. The snapshot feature at this stage does not save “Disable event logging” or “Enable micro-stutter fix”

Added “Fix auto-equip delay” tweak.

Added “Rebind hardcoded instances of the Use key” tweak. If you’re using “F” for something other than “Use”, this is the tweak for you. Limited to alphanumeric keys for now.

UPDATE #13 19/09/2011: v1.91 beta has just been uploaded. Here’s what’s new:

Added a save game and profile backup and restore. Once activated, you can press F5 in-game to create a backup of your save game and profile (up to a maximum of 10, at which point, the Helper will replace the oldest backup with a new one). Important: This is not a quick-save! It only backs up what the game has saved, in case it becomes corrupted.

Added black screen fixes – one changes the “Monitor” value in Video.scr, while the other disables Desktop Composition while Dead Island is running. These aren’t guaranteed to fix every black screen issue under the sun, but it should help with those caused from having more than one monitor.

Slight bug fix for the vertical synchronization tweak. Shouldn’t have cased problems for a majority of cases.

UPDATE #14 22/09/2011: v1.93 beta is available for download. Hopefully people will have less (or no) issues with this version. Changelist below:

Added extensive error handling – hopefully we’ll get more constructive information when something goes wrong.

Added “Create diagnostic file”. This option will produce a simple text file on your desktop that contains some useful debug information. I can use this info to help troubleshoot problems, so please use it when you contact me!

Added “Launch via Steam” checkbox, under “Play Dead Island”. When this checkbox is set, Dead Island Helper will launch the game using the Stream protocol (steam://) when you click “Play Dead Island”. Movies will still be enabled (unless you disable them with “-nologos” in the launch properties). Use this option if things don’t work quite right when running the game directly via “Play Dead Island”.

Added “Clear all settings” option. This will clear the settings folder, game directory and all non-tweak related settings from Dead Island Helper’s memory and restart the program. This will give you a clean slate to work from when using new versions.

Dead Island Helper will automatically exit on startup unless it detects the correct settings folder, or you’re able to manually select the correct settings folder.

Dead Island Helper will no longer demand administrative privileges when it runs. However, you may need to use “Run as Administrator” if some features do not work.

UPDATE #15 22/09/2011: v1.94 beta, out now for the brave! I finally managed to track down the crash problem that was causing issues for so many people.

This update also fixes a crucial bug with the save game backup feature – it is strongly recommended you update to v1.94 beta if you use this feature and please, DO NOT use any of the save backups you’ve created with versions of the tool before 1.94 beta because they won’t work!

Fixed a critical bug with the save game and backup feature. This now also backs up the “remotecache.vdf” file, which contains important size and timestamp data.

Fixed a bug that would cause Dead Island Helper to crash on non-Administrator accounts and accounts without application compatibility enabled.

Dead Island: Micro-stuttering Solution

The micro-stuttering is caused by the keyboard input for many of us. For example, the game microstutters when you use your keyboard [especially for movement]. The game could be running at 60 fps but would look choppy and more like 30 fps. Again, only when using the keyboard and most noticeable when strafing.

Using other input devices, like a controller, eliminates the microstutter because the keyboard is not being used.

  1. Enter the Ease of access center [this can be accessed through Accessories after clicking Start], then click ‘Make the Keyboard Easier to use’.
  2. Click ‘Set Filter Keys‘.
  3. Click ‘Set up Filter Keys’.
  4. Click ‘Turn on Repeat Keys and Slow Keys’,and then on ‘Set up Repeat Keys and Slow Keys’. Select the option to ignore all repeated keystrokes, and reduce the time option at the top to 0.0 seconds.
  5. Go back.
  6. Ensure that ‘Turn on Filter Keys’ is ticked at the top and apply. Dead Island now runs smoothly, when you’re done, un-tick the box and apply.

Dead Island: Crashing Due to Module ‘filesystem_x86_rwdi.dll’

Symptom:
Crash when launching due to module filesystem_x86_rwdi.dll.

Reasons:
The game fails to launch because it cannot access your Documents folder. You have most likely redirected your Documents folder to a remote location (i.e. a file server on your network). Dead Island cannot traverse the network path.

Solution:
All Windows Versions
Create a new user and do not redirect the Documents directory (keep it local). Play Dead Island logged in as the user you just created.

Windows Vista/7
Make your documents folder appear as part of the local file system. NOTE: This requires finding and changing the values in the registry. If you don not know what you’re doing, do not attempt!

  1. Using the command prompt as admin, add a symbolic link to your user directory (C:\Users\). The command looks like this: mklink /D Documents \\path\to\remote\documents
  2. Using regedit, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList
  3. Check the ProfileImagePath value to identify which SSID belongs to your login. (Value should be C:\Users\)
  4. Using this SSID navigate to HKEY_USERS\\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ex plorer\User Shell Folders in regedit and chang the value for Personal from your remote network location to %USERPROFILE%\Documents

Dead Island: Increase FOV

    1. Navigate to Documents -> DeadIsland -> out.
    2. Create a directory tree like this if it does not already exist: Documents -> DeadIsland -> out -> data -> skills
    3. Download and paste this file into that directory here.

If you are having trouble renaming the file from .xml back and forth to .txt, try tapping Alt while in Windows Explorer, going to Tools -> Folder Options -> View tab -> un-check “Hide extensions for known file types”.

FOV stands for Field of View – by the way.

Dead Island: How to Enable Crossfire

This is another edition to ‘Very Easy 101′ on how to enable Crossfire in Dead Island.

How to enable Crossfire:

  1. Download and install RadeonPro here.
  2. Add the Dead Island .exe
  3. Navigate to the tweaks tab and choose “Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood (Chrome 4) from the ‘Force CrossfireX Profile’ drop-down box.
  4. Enjoy!

Dead Island: How to Enable SLI

How to enable SLI in Dead Island

Very simple and easy instructions to follow.

  • Click where it says “_GLOBAL_DRIVER_PROFILE (Base Profile)” and type in ” Dead Island ” and simply hit enter.

  • Click “Add application to current profile” to open a navigation window.

  • Navigate to steamapps > common > dead island. Double-click “deadislandgame”.

  • If you did everything correctly you should see deadislandgame.exe listed in the green bar.

Calling ALL Left 4 Dead 1 & 2 [Steam] Players!

Add me on Steam: Asilee. Good, friendly, fun, gaming is all I ask of you.

Also let me make a few things clear and I’m sure a lot of those who read this and play L4D will agree:

  1. Assumptions are never cool. Don’t just assume that everyone is using a mouse and keyboard as you. Just because you find it A LOT easier to simply point and click to shoot a zombie doesn’t mean everyone else feels the same way. I’m more comfortable using my Xbox 360 Wired Controller while others might find using their Logitech Controller more comfortable. Assumptions leave people to make stupid responses via mic or keyboard. Calling people a douche and n00bs because they missed a few zombies during a crescendo.
  2. If you’re being roped up by a Smoker, there’s a Tank on the map and a crescendo and you yell on the mic “I NEED HELP!” or say it in all CAPS on the keyboard and you KNOW all of this is going on with other survivors on the map; we can’t get to you and you get mad and wish incurable diseases on people, you obviously need to develop manners, common sense and a little courtesy.
  3. If you hate a certain player on the map THAT much and instead of going through the map and playing the game, you decide to stand there and empty an entire clip on that person until he dies, you need to play by yourself with the CPU.
  4. We’re playing on Expert or Advance, hell maybe even Normal and we all pretty much one more punch to the teeth from being TKO and we somehow make it through Hard Rain or Dead Air and get to a Safe Room and we all heal that does NOT mean when we get to the NEXT Safe Room your health is at 86% you can go ahead and heal and snatch up another health pack. Especially if someone needs it more than you. That’s selfish as hell and you probably had a rough childhood.
  5. Speed running through a map takes the fun from other players and I’m sure you as well. What do you get out of doing that? You got a record book and a stopwatch or something? You trying to beat a record? Then you get mad when you’re so far ahead and a Smoker, Charger or a Hunter got you held up in a corner and you about to piss your pants because “We’re taking too long” but sorry dude, you left us with all these Tanks and crescendos to deal with, your impatient ass is gone have to wait or rage quit.
  6. I can understand lighting a gas can on fire by mistake but deliberately throwing a Molotov or lighting a gas can on fire because you’re being overwhelmed by a gang of Zombies and there is a team member two feet in front of you who is going through the same thing as you and they’re being pummeled and you’re holding your own makes you real stupid and oblivious to the health bars at the bottom of the screen as well as the hit points it takes from them the longer they’re standing in the fire.  They don’t see the fire coming because their back is turned, there was no warning, a smoker have them in their sight, a tank is around the corner and the first person it see is the first one on its shit list. And you decide to throw a Molotov because you want to survive, well now both of you are on fire and you probably just incapacitated your team member as well as yourself. The other team members have everything else to take care of AND THEN come and revive you up off the ground if the tank haven’t knocked them off the map somewhere; or if a jockey haven’t led them into yet another ass kicking. Then you’re pissed if and/or when you have to start the map over and you rage quit.
  7. If your head is stuck so far up your rectum that you think you’re the baddest, most awesome zombie annihilator on this side of the Steam servers, go outside, I’m sure there’s a life out there waiting on you. No one wants someone on the mic critiquing on how everyone else is playing and yet they can’t even Cr0wn a Witch correctly. While I’m on that, why do some of you [if not most] run off to find the Witch? She’s not in our path or anything and yet you’re running around the map, opening doors, probably done found the Tank in the process looking for the Bitch…er Witch. I know her crying is so tantalizing and it pulls you in and you want to end her misery but if you don’t know how to kill her with one blow or on your own for that matter, leave her alone. You won’t win any brownie points with anyone else that has the displeasure in playing with you.
  8. Those who are scared to turn a corner, just go play Checkers or something. It grinds my gears when I see someone trailing behind, letting everyone else go ahead of them and suddenly they want to throw their “I got balls” cape on. Or find some damn excuse to trail off the path. There will be other opportunities to grab some “peels”.

Here’s a list of things NOT to do in Left 4 Dead 1 & 2

A Leave of Absence

Hello fellow readers,

As some of you may know, I was pregnant. Baby was due June 9th but he decided to bake a little longer and made his grand entrance into the world June 14th. He’s 8 pounds, 12 ounces, and he’s 22 inches long. Knowing that piece of information, you already know what I’m about to say. I’m taking a leave of absence from Asilee.com effective immediately. I won’t be making any blogs or helping anyone with their The Sims 3 issues until 6-7 weeks from now or maybe a bit longer. I’m sorry to those who look forward to my blogs and my helpful tips and opinionated articles on various topics. 6-7 weeks isn’t that long is it?

I’ve made latest articles 2 maybe 3 weeks ago about the new Sims 3 Expansion Pack Generations. There are also a blog that has all of The Sims 3: Official EA Download Links for *Cumulative* Manual Updates. So far that has been pretty helpful. Of course there’s a link to the list of  The Sims’ 3: Generations Glitches, Bugs, & Errors. I was supposed to add more to the list but you know, baby Adam comes first.

If you want to read up on Baby Adam [aka Baby Thumper]  and read my birth story you can visit my baby’s blog here.

Sincerely,

Asilee
