I myself am mulatto (half black, half white), and I was also an atheist before I converted to Buddhism. I know the pains and annoyance that come with being an atheist. I was lectured nonstop by people saying that I was nothing more than a devil worshiper. But people like Christians and Catholics have NO idea. They say their religion is constantly beat down on, though I’d like to see one stand a day in an atheist’s shoes. My mother is Catholic, but I am fortunate because she believes in religious freedom — otherwise, not forcing your religion on your children. She supported me when I was an atheist, and she still supports me as a Buddhist. I was also lucky to have close friends that were Christian or Catholic, but nobody cared about each others religions, because we were so close as such. I received many a hate-mail regarding my

I have a hard time meeting blacks who have yet to let go of old superstitions. Even in this world of science and as I am in the field of medical science it amazes me to see people who know the human form so in depth to still believe in a control mechanism of ancient times. Yet my empathy allows me to see why the sick hold on so tight and I try not to take thier hope away yet I hate the lies I have to tell to keep the hopes of the sick up, but I find it selfish of me to take thier hope away. Anyway I’m glad to see I am not the only one of my race that feels the same as I do and I fear this “God” has done more to suppress than uplift. The more blacks I see who have taken off blinders the better the future looks.
